Gilliam County Marriage Licenses
Marriage licenses are handled by the Gilliam County Clerk, not by the Circuit Court. The Clerk's duties include issuing and solemnizing marriage licenses, indexing marriage records for permanent record, maintaining county records, providing notary services, and serving as county registrar for death filings before submission to Vital Statistics. Office hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with lunch closure from noon to 1:00 p.m. The Clerk page also makes a court-record distinction: the County Clerk is not part of the Oregon State Circuit Court System, and court-related services go to Gilliam County Circuit Court.

Apply for Gilliam County Marriage License
The Gilliam marriage licenses and domestic partnerships page says a public computer is available in the Clerk's Office and both applicants must come to the office to fill out the application and pay the fee. The official page should be checked before visiting for current form requirements, identification instructions, and fee details if they are not separately posted.

Gilliam County Marriage Fees
The research captured certified marriage copy fees and domestic partnership payment information. It did not capture a current marriage license fee amount. The safe approach is to confirm the marriage license fee with the County Clerk before visiting. Do not assume a fee from another Oregon county applies to Gilliam County.

Gilliam County Certified Marriage Copies
Certified marriage copies may be requested in writing or by phone from the Gilliam County Clerk. The first certified copy is free, and additional certified copies are $10.00. Certified copies are the practical choice when a marriage record must be used for legal, benefit, identity, or agency purposes. An index entry or informal lookup may help locate a record, but it is not the same as a certified copy.
After a ceremony, the officiant must sign the issued license and return it to the Gilliam County Clerk's Office within five working days. That return step matters because the Clerk cannot complete the permanent record and certified-copy process until the signed license has been filed. If the ceremony was recent and the record is not ready, ask the Clerk whether the signed license has been received and indexed.
Gilliam County Domestic Partnerships
Domestic partnership registration uses a separate process from a marriage license. Gilliam County lists these eligibility rules: both individuals must be at least 18, at least one partner must reside in Oregon, neither partner can currently be in a marriage or legally recognized registered domestic partnership, and the partners cannot be first cousins or nearer kin. The county page also states that as of January 1, 2024, partners registering for domestic partnership may be of any sex.
Applicants use the Oregon Registered Domestic Partnership portal, but they should not sign the form until they are with a notary. After signing before a notary, the completed form and $50.00 county payment are brought to the Gilliam County Clerk's Office. The Clerk page says notary services are available at the courthouse at no charge and walk-ins are welcome, which can help with the domestic partnership form.

Historical Gilliam County Marriage Records
The Oregon Secretary of State Gilliam County records inventory says Gilliam marriage records date from 1885. The inventory includes applications, certificates, licenses, and indexes. It also notes that the records can include names and residences, officiant, fees charged, filing date, volume and page, certificate number, date and place of marriage, witnesses, and county officials' signatures.
Since 1906, marriages have been officially registered with the state of Oregon. For older family-history work, the Clerk's vault, the Secretary of State inventory, and the exact volume or certificate reference can all matter. A modern OJD court search is not the right tool for an 1880s or early 1900s Gilliam County marriage record. Start with the Clerk and the inventory when the record is historical.
Find Gilliam County Divorce Records
Divorce records are different from marriage records. Divorce is a Circuit Court matter in Gilliam County. The Gilliam County Circuit Court page and county government directory identify Circuit Court services that include name changes, divorce, and jury. Public divorce case registers may be searchable through OJD Online Records Search, but the free portal provides limited case information and does not provide document images.
For certified divorce judgments or case-file copies, contact Gilliam County Circuit Court at 541-256-1008 or use courthouse access and OJCIN channels if eligible. Protected family-law information, personal identifiers, confidential documents, and sealed material will not be visible in the free public portal. A divorce case register may show basic events, parties, hearings, and disposition, while the certified judgment or decree must come from the court record source.
Marriage Records vs Divorce Records
The office split is the main reason Gilliam County marriage and divorce record searches go wrong. The Clerk issues and records marriages. The Circuit Court handles divorce cases. Domestic partnerships use the Clerk after the state portal and notary step. Historical marriage searches may use the Secretary of State inventory in addition to the Clerk.

Gilliam County Divorce Record Limits
OJD states that free Online Records Search does not provide records or calendar information for some protected categories and does not show personal identifying information such as Social Security numbers, addresses, and other protected data. Party information in the free search is limited. In divorce cases, that means a public case register may be available while sensitive family, financial, custody, or identifying information remains restricted or must be reviewed through the court under the proper access rules.
